Affective Balloons
How can architecture and design respond to the nuances and fluctuations of an emotional landscape of a place? Existing in the form of a transformable and immersive balloon installation situated in the public area of the Futian Station, Affective Balloons employs emotion detection AI algorithm to autonomously adapt and respond to both collective and individual feelings who are passing by the installation.

Bermanism: Line as Center
In industrial cities, the legacies of distribution, degradation, and ownership of the waterfront cannot be solved by maximizing the square footage of protected land. How can this deceptively simple process of ‘drawing the line’, encourage a more nuanced discussion around the question, ‘what should we protect?’ in an era of climate uncertainty and risk.

CoDAS
Over the last decade, advancements in data collection, computing and visualization methods have given rise to a new form of urbanism: networked urbanism. As cities compete for “smart city” status, myriad sensors are installed in the built environment, capturing a “real-time” city supposedly responsive to both infrastructural and citizen needs, thereby creating a more desirable environment for people to live.

Design Metrics
How does design contribute to real estate value? We devise a set of design metrics in this project to provide guidelines for both designers and developers. We identify a list of design elements as quantifiable features which we can collect and evaluate to construct correlations between design and real estate market value. Designers consider qualitative elements of architecture during the design process currently overlooked by the real estate
financial economics literature - such as materiality, geometry, daylight, views, spatial transformability - to cater to both functional and aesthetic needs. However, omitting these features from asset valuation leaves a missed opportunity to understand the extent to which the actual design of a building impact the market value of a property during individual real estate transactions, thereby diminishing the agency of design during negotiation processes.
